Toppers of CLAT fail to get admission in NLS Delhi

AIT News Network

NEW DELHI. NLS (National Law School) Delhi based in Dwarka has become hottest and most sought after Law School in India for 5 year BA, LL.B. (Honours) course after class 12th; if the results of separate entrance examinations of NLS Delhi and CLAT(Common Law Entrance Test) are any indication. NLS Delhi was not part of CLAT examination which was a common entrance for 11 National Law Schools including Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jodhpur, Bhopal, Raipur, Gandhinagar, Lucknow, Patna, Punjab and Kochi.

There are around 40 candidates who got admission in NLS Bangalore, but failed to crack entrance of NLS Delhi. Even the toppers of CLAT have failed to clear entrance examination for NLS Delhi. Nidhi Modani who topped with Rank 1 in CLAT; secured 69th rank in entrance examination of NLS Delhi and has failed to get admission even from 1st waiting list as there are only 52 General Category seats in NLS Delhi. Similarly, Rajat Gangwar who secured Rank 2 in CLAT also failed in entrance of NLS Delhi where he was placed in Rank 170. Further, Sidhartha Basu who scored Rank 3 in CLAT also failed to get admission in NLS as he was ranked 97 in NLS Delhi. Paroma Mitra who got Rank 5 in CLAT also failed to get admission in NLS Delhi as she got placed at Rank 409 in NLS Delhi examination. Parul Goyal who has secured Rank 6 in CLAT is also in the same boat as she was ranked 231 in NLS Delhi examination. Vishav Gupta ranked 8 in CLAT also failed in NLS Delhi examination as he was ranked 75 by NLS Delhi.

Majority of students studying in NLS Bangalore are from North and with the opening of NLS in Delhi students are giving their first preference to NLS Delhi. If the results are any indication; NLS Delhi is going to surpass NLS Bangalore and NALSAR Hyderabad by the time its first Batch passes out in 2013 as the quality of students as well as the Faculty joining NLS Delhi may be superior to other National Law Schools. Dr Ranbir Singh who was Founder Director/Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR Hyderabad has joined as Vice-Chancellor of NLS Delhi and Dr Ghanshyam Singh from NALSAR has joined as Registrar of NLS Delhi. Further, NLS is hunting for the Faculty from other NLS and some of the Faculty has already moved from NALSAR and other National Law Schools. Being located in Capital NLS Delhi will have access to best Faculty and since it is the seat of Supreme Court it will also have better access to legal luminaries. NLS Delhi boasts of world class infrastructure including Air-conditioned class rooms and library. The campus is wi-fi enabled.

Law itself has become a Hot Profession and joining NLS can prove out to be better than joining IIT. Those passing out from National Law Schools of Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jodhpur etc. are offered Packages ranging from Rs. 30 Lakh to Rs. 40 lakh in Foreign Law Firms and Rs. 10 to Rs. 15 Lakh in Indian Law firms. Many National Law Schools have 100 per cent campus placement.
